Lee Hwa Jewellery shows its support to the young designers of
Singapore Jewellery Design Award 2010
The winning designs of the Award will be presented at
Singapore International Jewellery Show 2010
Singapore, 21 July 2010 – Aspial-Lee Hwa Jewellery, Singapore’s leading contemporary
fine jeweller, is proud to be the sponsor of Singapore Jewellery Design Award (SJDA) 2010
for the second year running.
SJDA is a vocational service programme by the Singapore Jewellers Association, which aims
to provide a supportive and enriching environment for young designers to pursue their
dreams in jewellery creation and promotion in Asia. The award saw 86 young designers
from prestigious design institutions in Singapore and Hong Kong participating this year.
This year’s Award theme is ‘Evolve’ – requiring participants to showcase an integration of
historic elements, present trends and futuristic innovations into jewellery designs to present
uniquely beautiful, post-modernist creations.
The young designers participated in three
categories.
Winners will have the rare opportunity to see their designs being manifested into physical
jewellery pieces to be marketed and sold alongside collections by Lee Hwa Jewellery.
Industry professionals also provided advice on the manufacturing and marketing viability.
The winning designs will be launched at the upcoming SIJS 2010 by Lee Hwa.
Category A winners: Ladies interchangeable pendant / earring
Category A requires the designers to create an interchangeable pendant or earring for
ladies made with any gold, diamonds and semi-precious stones.

Dentelle
| By Silvia Tjahyadi
| Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts
Dentelle, a pair of earrings featuring two white gold centrepieces of diamonds or pearl, integrates the ancient craft of lace-making with an added contemporary twist with the elaborate patterns and textures, adding incomparable flair and symbolising the circle of life - a head-turner in its own right.

Elixir de vie
| By Lam Hoi Kiu
Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education
(Lee Wai Lee)
Elixir de vie is motivated by a dew drop, symbolising the elixir of life. Encrusted with diamonds and black sapphires, the white gold pendant is also complemented by the luminosity of pearl, displaying unrivalled style and grace. It is the exemplar of modernity and radiance, adorning women with dignified elegance and poise, captivating the beholder for ages to come.
Category B winners: Men’s jewellery
Category B requires the designers to conceptualize a pendant or ring for the men made of
any gold, diamonds and semi-precious stones.

Heureux
| By Tan Sok Lim
| Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts
Heureux is inspired by the jigsaw puzzle which serves as the connection between the past, present and future. Incorporating onyx, white, yellow and rose gold in its design, the inclusion of diamonds in the ring further highlights the piece’s futuristic inspiration, without compromising on its distinct masculinity.

In Avanti
| By Pauline Lim Pau Ling
Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts
In Avanti amalgamates the past and the future in its markedly unique design – the circular portion of the pendant represents the past while the clean straight lines and sharp pointed corner depicts a vision of the future, being upward and progressive future. Set with citrine in yellow gold, the pendant cum ring illustrates the boldness of a contemporary, forward- looking man of the 21st century.
Category C winners: Jewellery for casual wear
Category C calls for designs of jewellery for casual wear made of any gold and gems.

Ripple di Tranquillita
| By Silvia Tjahyadi
Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts
Ripple di Tranquillità, the white-and-yellow gold aquamarine pendant, represents a koi pond, an Asian symbol of peace, beauty and tranquillity. The theme of ‘Evolve’ is captured succinctly by the growing ripples in white gold, radiating from a diamond centrepiece, encapsulating an intricately fashioned koi of yellow gold.

Incanto
| by Rebecka Varvovzos
Raffles Design Institute
Incanto showcases a pair of diamond-in-white-gold earrings. Its unpretentious and austere design exudes a sophisticated attitude, with intensity and elaborate showmanship. Reminiscent of sea shell’s intricate patterns, highlighting roots in nature in a succinctly modern and contemporary incarnation, Incanto is a showcase much in line with the overarching theme of ‘evolution’.
